William Pike played Paul Balcom, son of Herbert Balcom, and Paul was engaged to Eva.
After the mechanical man (Herbert Balcom) was killed, his son, Paul wore the armor to extract his own revenge.
The writer of this exhibit ad must have been referring to Allan Dwan the director–not Allen Dawn.

You’re welcome! Dwan directed Douglas Fairbanks swashbucklers in the 1920s. I wonder what HH thought of Fairbanks and his successful movies
