With the anniversary of Houdini’s Death approaching, thought I would share a a 1926 Billboard newspaper page [from my W.W. Durbin archive] that includes tributes to Houdini.
It also includes the pallbearers, magicians in attendance, and tributes from Chas. J.Carter, Sevis LeRoy, Nicola, B.M.L. Ernst, Howard Thurston, and others.
“H. was buried like a king.”
“Long live the King!”
Great stuff Joe! Thanks for posting this! Durbin laid the butter on Bess. As we know he was rewarded.
Thanks Leo! I now think I know who got the reward after Durbin. Stay tuned for a future post.
Oh. My. God.!!!
Durbin knew Houdini since 1895? That’s interesting. Would like to know when and where they met.
Interesting indeed! Inquiring minds want to know!! In 1895, WW Durbin built Egyptian Hall in Kenton OH; And Houdini performing in PA not that far away may have visited. That said, the book “Linking Rings William W. Durbin and the Magic and Mystery of America” by James D. Robenalt mentions: “Durbin knew Houdini having met him in 1909 when he played Keith Theater in Columbus.
Hopefully with your future post Joe, we will be “all shook up”
🙂
Waiting with anticipation.
