The “Not a Serial!” phrase was the binding thread here. I take it that by the time Terror Island was released, serials were on their way out. But not completely because the serial returned when television made its debut in the 1930s. The serial has been with us since.
It would seem that way.
Although FPL emphatically advertised Terror Island as “Not a Serial!”, it has the episodic structure and emphasis on sensation scenes common to serial films [Solomon].
So essentially, it was a wild serial, with a series of individual stunts performed by Houdini that you could see all in one issue.
LoL! Glad you enjoyed it. BTW: I am looking forward to your special “Houdini in Hollywood” event at Hollywood Heritage next Wednesday, October 8th at 7:30pm.

Another one I’ve never seen. Bravo! Loved this series — but Not a Serial!

Looking forward to seeing you there. And we will of course be screening Terror Island.
We set up the displays today. They look awesome. We’ve turned Hollywood Heritage into a Houdini museum for a week.
