I wonder if Terror Island would have done better business in the U.K. if it had been released there much earlier like May 1920. Houdini had just toured there, so having the picture follow him makes sense. A year is a long wait and the fickle public forgets fast.
It may have helped. That said, the low grosses of Terror Island in the US most likely caused Jesse Lasky and Paramount to not invest any more time or money in Houdini and they parted ways. Houdini founded the Houdini Picture Corporation early in 1921 and was filming scenes for the Man From Beyond, before Paramount released Terror Island in the UK.
All true my friend. Hollywood should have sent a print to Britain while he was still touring there. He could have promoted the opening of the film on the heels of a successful British tour. By all accounts he did well overseas and that momentum could have helped him at the box office.
