Since it was 114 years ago today that Harry Houdini was presented with the Solid Silver Manacle, a facsimile of the one from which he escaped, I thought I would share the only known Tatler Magazine page which shows what could very well be the original Mirror Cuff.
BTW: I am the current owner of this original page which also shows a photo of the then famous event, no article was published with the pictures. The original Mirror Cuffs? The Tatler Cuffs maybe? Easier to hide the shorter key.
Yes, it’s possible the Tatler Cuffs are the original Mirror Cuffs he escaped from; they match the solid silver manacle to a tee. Not sure the Tatler Cuffs required a key.
Gotta believe HH didn’t want this Tatler Cuff photo around. Or an actual photo of Solid Silver manacle. Since they both didn’t quite match the Mirror Cuffs that I believe were shown to locksmiths and used for reward.
Yeah–could be the Tatler cuff was rigged to open without a key. All three look about the same to me:
1. The DC Mirror Cuffs.
2. The replica
3. The Tatler Cuffs.
